Signalment: 12 years old, Male Castrated, Maine Coon Cat
Presenting Complaint: This cat was referred to Emergency Services at OVC for further evaluation of a possible lung tumour.

Presenting History

On presentation to OVC he appeared distressed and dyspneic. Physical examination revealed a moderate amount of subcutaneous emphysema over the neck and cranial thorax. Inspiratory effort was noted, and crackles could be heard in the caudodorsal lung fields bilaterally. A thyroid nodule could also be palpated in the neck on the right side of center. Additionally, the heart sounded muffled on auscultation.

The owner noted that he was having periods of "heavy breathing" through his nose beginning a few months previously. Ten days prior to presentation at OVC the owner took him to the family veterinarian for evaluation as he had been getting worse. He became progressively more lethargic and inappetant in the few days prior to presentation at OVC. The dyspnea also continued to worsen.
